The sinful flesh which dwells within us will often seek to elevate, show off, and gain recognition or praise.
We all struggle with this to one degree or the other. Scripture warns us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. (Romans 12:3)
Pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18), and often we fall into the trap of thinking too highly of our accomplishments, talents, or appearance.
That is how the world judges, but God sees into our hearts. (1 Samuel 16:7) Sad to say, but the human heart is so wicked that we can even clothe ourselves in a false humility (Colossians 2:18) seeking to convince others of our piety and goodness.
The reality is we all fall short of Gods standard and His glory. (Romans 3:23) Our best efforts are no more than filthy rags before the Holy God.
