Time to Wake up and Read the Bible

the bible is our guide

Christians Need to Read the Bible

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God.” Romans 10:17
My words may have little to no natural effect on anyone, but God’s words,
“will not return to Him void.”  Isiah 55:11
And Jesus said,
“if you abide in my word you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:31,32
One of the best preachers out there today is Dr. Voddie Baucham And he gives one of the best explanations of what the bible is. It is especially helpful when explaining to a non-believer.
“We have a reliable collection of historical documents written by eye witnesses, written during the lifetime of other eye witnesses, they report super-natural events which took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim their writings are of divine and not human origin.”  Dr. Voddie Baucham
And if you are a Christian and you have no desire for the word of God, you have to ask yourself if you actually believe or not.
If you are a Christian, you should already believe that the bible is the word of God. And if you believe that you will read it. We may say that we believe, but if we do not act on what we believe, its a good indication that we are fooling ourselves.
God wants us to put Him first. It is, after all, His rightful place. Anything we put above God becomes an idol.

This life and these bodies are temporary

And the older I get, the more grateful I become. But the word of God endures forever. Jesus said,
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.”  Matthew 24:45
Our body will return to the exact place from which it came, dust. Putting off something as important as reading what God has said makes no sense.
God has put the knowledge of Himself in man, Created a universe that declares His glory, has given us His Son, and provided us with His word.
If that were not enough, He also sent us the Holy Spirit as our helper who also helps us to understand His word.

We need to seek God through his word and have his thoughts in our minds

6 ” Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the  wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.”
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”   Isiah 55: 6-9
when we were lost we did not seek the lord but were spiritually dead. but as believers ,we can and should be seeking  him. It is in his presence where we will find the fullness of joy, and spending time reading what god has said to us is crucial if we are to know him.

The Holy Spirit and The word of God

Once the Holy Spirit draws us to Christ and opens our eyes to the gospel, we receive His gift of salvation by faith. When this happens, His Spirit comes into our lives, and we are no longer strangers or enemies of God. Jesus said,
“my sheep hear my voice.” John 10:27
And the Apostle Paul explains,
” The Natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of  God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.  1 Corinthians 2:14

Believe it or not

The Holy Bible is the most vetted document in the history of the world, and yet because it has been under so much attack, without proper responses being heard or given, people believe the lies and often absurd accusations.
Another very disturbing reality is the fact that few people bother to read it, yet seem to have such strong opinions, and claim to “know the bible.”
  • There are over 5,800 known Greek New Testament manuscripts and
    more than 2.6 million pages.
  • When we combine the new and old Testament manuscripts and scrolls, there are more than 66,000
  • The first five books of the Old Testament are believed to have been written by Moses sometime around 3,500 years ago.
  • It begins back before the world was the way we know it to be now.
  • The new testament is written by those who knew Jesus (or Apostles) from 50Ad to the last book at around 150AD.

No other book or body of work compares to the bible as it has been the source of knowledge as to:

  • How we all got here – creation of the world and universe
  • Why we are the way we are
  • Why everyone dies and where they go
  • How we can be right with a Holy God
  • The flood and Gods judgement
  • Wisdom
  • How to live this life
  • and how it all will end
  • AND SO MUCH MORE

Because the bible is the living word of God, we cannot compare it with anything else.

“Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet-anchor of your liberties; write its precepts in your hearts, and practice them in your lives.”  Ulysses S. Grant
The attacks on the bible have been non-stop, yet it stands today as the biggest selling book of all time topping the list year after year.

Errors? I think not.

There are no “errors” in the bible on any content unless we talk about a comma or little comparisons of similar things. In the original copies, they were perfect and from God.
And that in no way means the bible has errors. People say that to try and justify themselves and their conscience and keep others from reading and believing.
I can tell you scripture is far more accurate than any of our modern history books could ever hope to be. Found in different places and written in different languages, no other ancient history records come anywhere close to the bible.
But the easy way out is to say you don`t read the bible because “it has errors.”
I want to leave you with an important passage in Second Timothy which is as relevant today as when the Holy Spirt breathed it.
1“But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people  will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all. as was that of these two men.
10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra-which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me.
12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17  that the man of God may be completed, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:1-17
